Microblading, What Is It?

Microblading has become very popular recently, and for a good reason.

Eyebrow embroidery, also known as microblading, is a semi permanent tattooing technique used to define or correct sparse or uneven eyebrows. The reason microblading has become the more popular choice over permanent cosmetic tattooing is just that, it’s not permanent.

Because the face changes shape as aging occurs as well as hair color and brow style changes, your face should never permanently be tattooed. You want to be able to revisit color and shape every few years. There in lies the beauty of microblading. Because the microblading method only lays ink in the basal cell layer of the skin, and not in the live layer like a traditional tattoo, the ink will eventually exfoliate off in 1-3 years.

The time of this exfoliation process does depend on a few things:

  • Whether your skin is dry or oily, oily skin will push out ink faster.

  • You are using exfoliating products such as Retin-A, retinol, beta or alpha hydroxy acids like lactic, glycolic, or salicylic.

  • Sun exposure can fade ink if it’s not protected by a mineral sunscreen.

Microblading is a two appointment process. The first appointment is the create shape, and the second appointment defines that shape. It is imperative that you get the second treatment done, otherwise your microblading will look sparse and patchy. Ink is pushed out during the healing process and that fading is repaired during the second treatment. *Oily skinned people may need 3 appointments to attain full looking brows.

Being a licensed master esthetician for the past 7 years now, I’ve applied make up, colored and waxed every kind of brow. My heart always hurt for the ones who had hardly any hair, because of hormone or thyroid imbalances, or from simply over tweezing in the 90’s, the last decade where thin brows were in. There’s just no option if you have no hair, until now!!

Microblading looks so natural, like individual strands of hair, people will have to guess if they are real or not. I like that option! So, I became trained and certified in microblading in June 2015. I absolutely love creating brows, it feeds my artistic side and creates confidence for my client. Your first appointment with me consists of us working together on shape and color to create your perfect brows.

I take appointments on weekends and evenings. Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested.
